I am always a little cautious of the Golden Age Archives as I am usually unfamiliar with the content and the quality of art/story. Not being able to see the inside due to the shrinkwrap means a good outlay of cash for a possible unhappy result.

Do you think if DC was to post some preview pages on this website or, as they do with the weekly books, send them out as part of the first looks package posted on several of the news sites, that this would increase sales?

Any half decent bookseller, whether or not he's a comics dealer, will let you look inside a shrinkwrapped volume, even if it's the only copy he has. Allowing a genuine prospective purchaser to examine what he or she is considering buying is several orders of magnitude more important than catering to a hypothetical condition freak who may or may not walk in at some time in the future. If your shop owner won't let you look inside a shrinkwrapped book you're trying to decide whether to buy, you need to shop elsewhere, and tell him so.

Here's the link: http://www.dccomics.com/directcurrents/collect/archive/archivelist.html

But it is also way behind. Lots of recent Archive lines are missing, such as Enemy Ace and Spectre. YOu may not find what you want.

Thanks for the link. As most of these are vol. 1s There is no perspective of later volumes such as Batman. I bought and enjoyed the vol 5 of this series (Sprang art?). This is different than the art and story that is shown as being in vol1 of this series. When did Sprang art start in the Batman archive volumes?

I also found that the link to the SA Flash gets interiors for a GA Flash story with art by Lee Elias (?). Is this material from volume 2? The improvement in art is amazing when compared to the pages linking to vol 1 of the GA Flash. Is the art shown for vol 1 typical of the whole volume or did Elias come on early?

"Flash Archives, Vol. 1" actually starts off with the last Jay Garrick story. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. The chuckleheads who put together the preview material slavishly stuck to the first 6 pages of each Archive, no matter what, so instead of the first pages of Showcase #4, you get the first pages of Jay's story.

Believe it or not, that art is Infantino and Giacoia. The contrast between those 2 in 1949 and 1957 on Showcase #8 is astounding!

I can vouch for Amazon.com "allowing" sneak peeks inside the pages of some editions of Masterworks, Archives, etc...

Just a few days ago I was "looking" online at some of the SubMariner Masterwork pages...

don't know if this helps...

Sprang's stories begin in Volume 3.

When I go to the link and put in Archives, it just pops me back. Is there a step I'm missing to seeing the samples?

SA Flash #1 reprints the very last Golden Age story by Lee Elias at the beginning of the volume.

When you go to the site just click on the name of the archive you want . They are on the left. As mentioned it seems to be vol 1s only. Too bad I think as with the golden age stuff the material changes as the series continues and the artists change, or mature.

Thinking about my original question (and thanks to all who replied with help) Why wouldn't DC include these 4 pg previews with the weekly first looks? You would think it might make some decide to add the book to their shopping list or at least want list. Just seems like cheap advertisement .

Does DC preview any collections? I don't think they do. You're right, it would be a good thing to do. Even recent material has never been seen by large numbers of people; they should get a second chance with the preview.

When I first went to this link, I was on a friend's web tv, and none of the titles came up to let me preview the art. On my home computer though, it worked fine. I just thought I should give a heads up to anyone who tries this on a web tv hookup.

I hope for the next Spirit Archive (Eisner's return) or at least the one after that (all Eisner) that DC will tout big time the Eisner return. Sending out first looks involving Eisner Spirit pages will if nothing else give a heads up to people that the Eisner material has begun. I find that even if I have ordered something via Previews and especially if I just promised myself that I would consider a book in the future that the 3 month wait can dim the memory.

I think that sales will increase big time once the Eisner stuff starts and DC should use every avenue to get the word out.
